An open protocol, validated client by client

MCP is an open standard. Each provider still has its own connector interface, plans and OAuth callback, which Waylantern validates before activation.

Why not allow every AI immediately?

Waylantern uses an explicit allowlist for OAuth return addresses. A new provider is enabled only after its official callback has been identified and the complete authorization, revocation and error flow has been tested.

Security by design

The connector does not bypass Waylantern

Every request is authenticated, tenant-scoped, rate-limited and authorized server-side with the same policies as the web interface.

  • OAuth 2.1 authorization code flow with PKCE and revocable tokens.
  • Only public resource identifiers; no internal numeric ID is exposed.
  • Idempotent writes and an audit trail without logging prompts or tokens.
  • Human review in Waylantern before any publication.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers before connecting

MCP connects software tools to an assistant. It does not give an AI unlimited access to your account.

Is this a ChatGPT-only plugin?

No. Waylantern provides a remote MCP server, an open protocol supported by several AI clients. ChatGPT is the first production-tested client.

Can I use it with Claude or Mistral today?

Their products support remote MCP connectors, but Waylantern must first authorize and test each provider’s OAuth callback. They are therefore compatible but not yet announced as operational on Waylantern.

Can the assistant publish a procedure?

No. It can prepare or improve a draft. Publication remains an explicit human action inside Waylantern.

Does the assistant see my Runs and photos?

No. The current MCP tools expose neither Runs, responses, photos, QR tokens, members nor private history.

Can I disconnect it?

Yes. Connected assistants can be revoked from Account security in Waylantern and from the assistant provider’s connector settings.
